The Human Rainbow website grew out of two of our own projects. The aim is to help people who have very little. It is not meant to be a charity handout but as a means for people to find ways to support themselves and its other function is to provide teachers and students with materials they need to get a decent education.
How we believe it should work and how we believe you can help
Quite simple really, we believe that individuals should help individuals so that means you get involved and you get your hands "dirty". Take a bit of time out from that box of addiction in the corner of the room and send something to somebody in the world who will really appreciate it. Don't leave it to some "brand" name charity that asks you to give them £5 every month.
We only have contacts in Paraguay and Cuba so far but want to get involved in other countries. You can help here too. When you visit another country, especially a poorer one stay in lower cost accomodation where you will meet the real people rather than the "have a nice day" brigade that invariably works in 4 and 5 star hotels. And when you make contacts pass them on to us. Simple and no rhetoric. The world can change but it will take more than just your money.
And if you are one of those fundraisers that does something for themselves that they really enjoy, just think, sending a dictionary or a football will make so much more difference.
Our beliefs, some amongst the many!
- We believe that every child has the right to an education and that the exploitation of children as cheap labour and hence loss of education must stop
- Every human being should be able to earn enough to survive with dignity
- Therefore, there must be an end to exploitation through there being a global minimum wage. For any country, a wage must be set that allows an individual to feed, clothe and house themselves
