Cuba

In 2003 we visited Cuba and spent some time in Santa Clara, a city where Che won a decisive battle during the revolution. Whilst in the main square we met a young student called Omar who could speak some English. Since that trip, we have met two of his teachers, Sofia and Grisel. We have over the last three years sent them books, pens, rulers, pencil sharpeners and other educational material. Recently, we have started to send sports equipment as well. In that time Omar finished school, spent some time in the Army and is now studying to be a teacher.

Sofia teaches children and Grisel teaches other teachers how to teach English. They are often short of materials
